Chelsea fans are all making the same point about Josh Acheampong after his display vs Legia Warsaw

Chelsea took a big step towards the semi-finals of the Conference League with a big win over Legia Warsaw on Thursday evening.

Chelsea seized control of the Conference League quarter-final clash versus Legia Warsaw by securing a 3-0 away victory in the first leg. As a result, they’ll be strong favourites to progress when the teams meet again for the second leg at Stamford Bridge next Thursday.

It was a frustrating first half for the Blues, where they failed to score or create too much. However, they came out rejuvenated in the second period.

Tyrique George scored his first senior goal straight after the restart, while half-time substitute Noni Madueke made it 2-0 before the hour mark. Afterwards, Madueke added his second goal with yet another comfortable left-footed finish.

Chelsea’s player ratings versus Legia Warsaw highlighted a number of impressive individual displays.

Chelsea fans agree Josh Acheampong needs more minutes after Legia Warsaw performance

Josh Acheampong, 18, got a rare start for Chelsea this season as he was drafted into the line-up against Legia Warsaw.

The teenage defender, who played at right-back, looked very comfortable in and out of possession.

A selection of Blues supporters on social media all agree that the academy graduate needs to be playing more minutes moving forward because he always impresses when he features.

One fan said: “Acheampong needs more mins, let’s never forget that PSG tried to sign this kid.”

“Acheampong deserves to play more minutes he’s too good to always be on the bench,” another posted.

One supporter wrote: “Acheampong should’ve had way more minutes than he already has, unbelievable talent.”

“Acheampong needs more minutes. Look what he can do when given limited gametime, imagine how good he will be as a regular option,” another claimed.

Speaking back in February, Romeo Lavia praised Acheampong by tipping the Chelsea youngster for a massive future.

Even though the English talent has had to be patient for his opportunities since his promotion into the first team, he looks completely unfazed when he’s on the pitch. There were certainly no nerves from him in a hostile environment in midweek.

Chelsea think Acheampong is a world-class prospect in their ranks, but Maresca is slowly blooding him into the side. It’s worth noting this was just his ninth senior appearance of the season.

Josh Acheampong statistics vs Legia Warsaw

Acheampong certainly passed the eye test with his confident performance in Poland against Legia Warsaw.

The young full-back put up some very impressive individual statistics in the European win, too.

The competition within the Chelsea squad at right-back includes Malo Gusto and Reece James, which is why Acheampong isn’t playing too regularly. However, Thursday’s performance should definitely earn him a bit more trust with the head coach.

We’d definitely like to see Acheampong retain his starting position in the rest of the club’s Conference League campaign.
