Chelsea plot yet another Brighton raid as Todd Boehly ‘closely monitoring’ £40m attacker - journalist

Chelsea have completed plenty of business with Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion across the past few seasons since Todd Boehly and co took over as owners of the club.

The Blues smashed the Premier League transfer record with the addition of Moises Caicedo, who took a few months to get up to speed with the expectations on him at Stamford Bridge.

Caicedo is now one of Chelsea’s best players, a title closely fought for by fellow former Seagull Marc Cucurella, who again took some time to prove his importance to his new side.

Not every addition has been a success though. Robert Sanchez is unpopular amongst supporters, and the whole saga with bringing in Graham Potter and his staff proved to be nothing short of a disaster.

In their efforts to sign another attacker this summer, it seems once again their attention has turned to the Amex Stadium in an attempt to bolster their options.

Chelsea ‘closely monitoring’ Brighton’s Georginio Rutter

Chelsea were on the wrong end of consecutive defeats in a week to Brighton earlier this year, with the defeat in the FA Cup showcasing a great performance from Georginio Rutter.

The forward scored the equaliser against the Blues on the day, one of his 13 goal involvements in all competitions this season.

Assists 4

This display against Enzo Maresca’s side in particular caught the eye of Chelsea, with them now closely monitoring the Frenchman.

Journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that they Blues have added Rutter to their shortlist ahead of what is set to be another busy summer transfer window in West London

“Chelsea are closely monitoring the development of Georginio Rutter and have added him to their shortlist for the next transfer windows.

“The 22-y/o versatile forward is currently out with a foot injury but has had a strong season with Brighton, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. One to watch. Contract until 2028.”

Rutter is Brighton’s record signing, with the club spending £40m to bring him in at the start of this season.

Chelsea eyeing a number of Brighton stars

Despite not every purchase from the South Coast being seen as a success story, it has not stopped the Blues keeping tabs on a number of players in their side.

Chelsea are fans of Carlos Baleba, who has been starring in the middle of the park since Caicedo made his move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are also reportedly interested in signing Bart Verbruggen, with him fitting a lot of the criteria Maresca is looking for in a potential new goalkeeper.

Any signing from the club will likely come with doubts from the fanbase though, given the extraordinary fees the Blues have paid to Brighton over the past few seasons.
