Exclusive: Enzo Maresca is deciding factor as Chelsea complete 'one of the best deals in many years'
The Chelsea Chronicle understands that a deal for one of the club’s top transfer targets is ‘done’, and manager Enzo Maresca has played a key role in convincing him to join.
The boss will become the first manager since Todd Boehly and co took over the club to manage them in two different seasons when the new campaign gets underway, and he has more than earned a say in the players the club sign this summer.
Maresca led the Blues to both Conference League and Club World Cup glory, as well as guiding them back to the Champions League with a top four finish.
It already looks as if Chelsea are preparing to back the Italian this summer. They have signed Liam Delap, with Maresca reportedly insistent the club sign Delap this summer.

Enzo Maresca played big part in convincing Jorrel Hato to join Chelsea
With it clear that the club need some cover in the left-back position, reports that they are looking to sign Jorrel Hato have picked up traction over the past few days.
Hato has rejected offers from other Premier League clubs in order to make the move to Stamford Bridge, and it looks as if that is about to be a confirmed signing for the Blues.
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey has told The Chelsea Chronicle that as he understands, the deal to sign the Dutchman has been completed, with Maresca playing a key role during negotiations.
He said: “Chelsea are really confident now and I am told Hato is done, he has been won over by Enzo Maresca and whole project, even if Arsenal or Liverpool came for him – he is Chelsea bound.
“I think this is great business, this could be one of the very best deals Chelsea have done in many years – I rate Hato that highly.”

Hato’s previous outings against Premier League sides
With Ajax being regulars in European football over the past few years, the opportunity has been there for Hato to line up against Premier League opposition on a number of occasions in the early stages of his career.
Across the Europa League and Conference League, the defender has lined up against both Brighton and Aston Villa, with him yet to pick up a victory in either two-legged tie.
Hato enjoyed a great battle with Joao Pedro during a defeat to Brighton, playing both left-back and centre-back in a 4-0 aggregate defeat.
The same scoreline occurred in the Conference League against Villa, and he will be hoping for better luck at English sides when he comes up against Premier League sides again in the coming months.
