Fabrizio Romano predicts if both Jorrel Hato and Xavi Simons will join Chelsea this summer, 'in the next days'

Chelsea are being strongly linked with two more signings before the transfer window closes, and insider Fabrizio Romano has given his prediction as to whether they will get either deal over the line.

The Blues are considering bringing in two Netherlands internationals in the form of Jorrel Hato and Xavi Simons, as they look to make final additions to Enzo Maresca’s squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

Chelsea have held positive talks with RB Leipzig over the addition of Simons, with them seeming to have emerged as favourites ahead of the likes of Arsenal and Bayern Munich for the deal.

The Blues have also been buoyed in their efforts to sign the defender, with Hato buying into the Chelsea project despite interest from fellow top Premier League clubs.

Fabrizio Romano rates the chances of Jorrel Hato and Xavi Simons joining Chelsea

The club have already completed plenty of signings this summer, however have begun to offset some of those transfer fees with the sales of the likes of Joao Felix, Noni Madueke and Djordje Petrovic.

This is perhaps why there is plenty of confidence from Romano that a deal can be done for both players. He told DAZN that he believes there is an 80% chance Hato joins, while a 70% chance that Simons makes the move to Stamford Bridge.

He said: “This one is gonna be higher, and it’s an 80% for Hato for Chelsea. The agreement with the player is completed. Went to Ajax management and said ‘I want to go to Chelsea’. Hato did his part, he didn’t play the recent friendly games because there is this Chelsea deal ongoing. Now the two clubs are negotiating. I think in the next days this deal can be done.”

On Simons, he said: “It’s getting closer, the deal for Xavi Simons to Chelsea. There is still some work to do between the two clubs for the transfer fee, but the player is very keen on the move. He’s attracted by the opportunity. And now, Leipzig and Chelsea are talking, there is a negotiation ongoing. My percentage for Xavi Simons is 70% to become a Chelsea player this summer.”

How Chelsea could line up with Simons and Hato

While Hato is being signed to replace Renato Veiga as an option at left-back, he has the ability to play at centre-back as well.

Maresca can operate a back four that includes Hato and Marc Cucurella, with Levi Colwill and Reece James the likely candidates to start alongside them.

A starting role for Simons could see him feature centrally in attack, which may see a change in position for Cole Palmer.

The superstar attacker showed his capabilities on the right wing with a dominant performance against PSG in the Club World Cup final, and his best goalscoring season in the Premier League came when he predominantly played in that position.
