BBC pundit claims ‘delightful’ Chelsea player was ‘impressive’ vs Bayern Munich despite defeat
While he was on the losing side, Pat Nevin was still impressed with one Chelsea player following his performance against Bayern Munich.
Enzo Maresca‘s men were beaten 3-1 by Bayern at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, beginning their Champions League campaign with a defeat.
In the second half, Maresca replaced Enzo Fernandez, Reece James and Pedro Neto with Andrey Santos, Alejandro Garnacho and Estevao Willian to try and change the game.
Before the match, former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy lauded Neto, hailing him as the best right winger in the Premier League at this moment in time. There was one moment during the Bayern game where the Portuguese and Joao Pedro almost combined well, which Nevin highlighted.

Pat Nevin thought Joao Pedro was ‘impressive’ against Bayern Munich after almost combining superbly with Pedro Neto
Nevin was impressed with Pedro, praising his display against Dayot Upamecano and the rest of Bayern’s defence.
The Chelsea legend was commentating on the game for the BBC and said: “Delightful play from Pedro there. He is under a lot of pressure from Upamecano and Kim [Min-jae], who are both units. He has been very impressive tonight. Almost put Neto in there but he just couldn’t get his feet right.”
While Pedro and Neto have been two of Chelsea’s best players since the Club World Cup, the latter could soon find himself fighting for his first-team spot.
Estevao is already challenging Neto for a place in Maresca’s starting XI, while Geovany Quenda will also be eyeing his position in the future.
Chelsea fans raved about Quenda during the international break, claiming that he would replace Neto.

Who should start against Manchester United, Pedro Neto or Estevao Willian?
Chelsea’s next match is against Manchester United in the Premier League. With United not being anywhere near Bayern’s level right now, you would expect Maresca to field a more attacking line-up at Old Trafford.

James played in midfield against Bayern, but he is now likely to return to right-back or drop down to the bench, while Fernandez partners Moises Caicedo in the middle.
It would see Maresca possibly have to choose between Neto and Estevao for the right-wing position, while Garnacho or Jamie Gittens start on the left.
If that is the direction the Chelsea manager wants to go down, Estevao should get the opportunity to test a United defence lacking form and confidence. With his skill and dribbling, the Brazilian could cause real problems for Ruben Amorim’s side on Saturday.
