Brighton fans rage at ‘horrible’ Facundo Buonanotte transfer as Chelsea complete loan signing

Chelsea and Brighton have continued their relationship in the transfer market by negotiating a deal for Facundo Buonanotte.

On Monday’s deadline day, Chelsea confirmed that they have signed Facundo Buonanotte, 20, on a season-long loan from Brighton. It’s a straight loan deal without any clause regarding a permanent transfer, though.

The two Premier League clubs have conducted plenty of business recently, mostly the Seagulls selling stars to the Blues. Now, Buonanotte has made the surprise switch from the Amex Stadium to Stamford Bridge.

The attacking midfielder impressed during a season-long loan at Leicester City last term, but the move to West London feels like a significant step up.

It is worth adding that Chelsea are internally excited about Buonanotte because they believe in his quality and ability.

Brighton fans angry with Facundo Buonanotte’s move to Chelsea

Brighton fans on X have expressed significant anger towards the news that Buonanotte has joined Chelsea on a temporary basis. In particular, they are frustrated because they don’t expect the Argentine youngster to play too much for Enzo Maresca’s side.

“Unbelievable, we are a Chelsea feeder club now and it’s getting beyond a joke. I will be amazed if Facundo even starts 10 games for them this season!”

“What a horrible loan move… He’s not gonna get more than 200 minutes at that packed club.”

“Makes no sense to me this move.”

“Cracking decision lads let’s send him somewhere where he won’t play.”

Despite interest from Chelsea, Fermin Lopez decided to stay at Barcelona on deadline day. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder would have been a statement addition at Stamford Bridge, but it feels like they have enough cover without him.

The reality is that Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro can star as the No.10, while new signing Buonanotte is a new alternative in reserve.

Facundo Buonanotte speaks for the first time after £2m loan move

According to BBC Sport, Chelsea will pay around £2m to take Buonanotte on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The left-footed playmaker, who can excel as a No.10 or a right-winger, will add some extra depth to the squad. We saw in glimpses on loan at Leicester last year he’s got plenty of individual talent.

After signing for the Blues, Buonanotte said via Chelsea’s official website: “I’m very happy to join Chelsea. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m just looking to add as much to the squad as possible, help the team and help the staff.”

It’s probably helpful for the on-loan Chelsea player that he has time during the international break to settle into his new surroundings.
