Chelsea fans are all asking the same question after Facundo Buonanotte’s Champions League snub

Chelsea caused quite the stir when they announced their squad for the Champions League league phase on Wednesday.

One of Chelsea‘s new signings, Facundo Buonanotte, was left out of the squad in a disappointing development for the 20-year-old.

The likes of Joao Pedro and Alejandro Garnacho were included, though, with the former being arguably the Blues’ most important player right now in the absence of Cole Palmer.

It may be early in his Chelsea career, but Pedro has already enjoyed a lot of success in blue, helping his team to win the Club World Cup in July after scoring three goals in the competition.

Chelsea fans baffled by Facundo Buonanotte omission

There was not too much excitement when Buonanotte arrived at Stamford Bridge.

To many, the Argentine is still a relatively unknown prospect, while most Chelsea fans were hoping to see their club sign a centre-forward following Liam Delap’s injury.

Nevertheless, plenty of Chelsea supporters were disappointed not to see Buonanotte included in their Champions League squad and questioned his omission.

One Chelsea fan said: “Somebody explain why Facundo didn’t make the list!”

In response to Chelsea’s official X account that posted the Champions League squad, one supporter responded with an image of Buonanotte, saying: “Where’s this guy?”

Another replied: “What happened to Facundo Buonanotte?”

One user on the social media platform was adamant that Buonanotte should have been included: “Buonanotte should have made the list.”

Another posted: “Why leave Facundo out? Sometimes it feels like this club likes controversies. They just wanna be talked about. It makes zero sense.”

And another Chelsea fan wrote: “Where is Facundo? The dude said he was looking forward to playing the UCL. Why can’t I see his name?”

Buonanotte could at least get some minutes in Chelsea’s next Premier League game, especially if Palmer is still out injured. Palmer has been suffering from a groin problem, which has kept it out of his side’s last two matches.

Facundo Buonanotte joined Chelsea to play in the Champions League

Ironically, the opportunity to play in Europe’s elite competition was one reason why Buonanotte decided to join the Blues.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website upon his arrival at the club, the Argentina international said: “Of course, I’ll get the opportunity to play in the Champions League for the first time, which will be a great challenge.”

Buonanotte now needs to play out of his skin in the Premier League to have any hope of being registered for the Champions League knockout phase should Chelsea progress to it.
