Report: What Chelsea have told striker Marc Guiu after recalling him on deadline day

Chelsea’s Marc Guiu went to Sunderland and back again during a chaotic summer transfer window.

Even though Chelsea initially sent Marc Guiu, 19, on a season-long loan to Sunderland in August, they decided to recall him on deadline day.

Guiu has reacted professionally to his recall, which the Blues decided to do following Liam Delap’s injury against Fulham. The Spanish striker can now compete with Joao Pedro for the No.9 position after returning.

Guiu, who scored one goal in three games during his brief Sunderland loan, knows Enzo Maresca’s system well after playing in the Blues’ first team last season. However, he will hope for more opportunities because he only made 16 appearances across all competitions in his debut year with Chelsea.

Chelsea tell Marc Guiu he will definitely play

According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea have given Guiu assurances that he will play after his Sunderland loan was interrupted.

It is explained that the young centre-forward has a positive attitude and has set his sights on proving he deserves to play regularly. Apparently, he really wants to make a strong impression in training at Cobham.

The report states that the Blues have informed Guiu he will get his chance on the pitch in the coming weeks.

Blues head coach Maresca always had Guiu in his long-term plans, even after he was allowed to leave on loan last month. The duo are now working together again a lot sooner than anyone expected, though.

Enzo Maresca will need his Chelsea squad post-international break

After September’s international break is over, Chelsea have an action-packed schedule ahead of them before the pause again for October’s internationals.

Date Fixture Competition
13 September Brentford vs Chelsea Premier League
17 September Bayern Munich vs Chelsea Champions League
20 September Manchester United vs Chelsea Premier League
23 September Lincoln City vs Chelsea Carabao Cup
27 September Chelsea vs Brighton Premier League
30 September Chelsea vs Benfica Champions League
4 October Chelsea vs Liverpool Premier League
Chelsea’s next seven fixtures across all competitions

If Chelsea have really strengthened their squad over the summer, like many supporters believe, we should see the benefit in this next set of matches. Hopefully, Maresca is willing to rotate frequently, meaning the likes of Jorrel Hato, Andrey Santos and Dario Essugo come into the side to provide fresh legs.

Of course, we hope to see Guiu starting a few of the games above, too.

With Delap possibly up to 6-8 weeks, it could open a massive door for Guiu to force his way into Chelsea’s main plans.
