Major boost for Enzo Maresca as two key Chelsea players return to training ahead of Brentford clash

Chelsea have been hit badly with injuries in the early stages of the 2025/26 season, however it looks as if they are set to welcome back a couple of key players in the coming days.

Enzo Maresca’s side left the Club World Cup in the United States just weeks before the new campaign got underway, and had very little time to recover.

This seems to have caused a problem for both Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer. The defender in particular has been impacted, and is set to miss the majority of the season due to a serious knee injury.

Maresca has had to utilise Trevoh Chalobah on the left side of centre-back so far this season, and while he has certainly impressed it is clear the Blues have been missing a left-footed option in the absence of Benoit Badiashile.

Benoit Badiashile and Romeo Lavia return to Chelsea training

Romeo Lavia is also yet to get his new season started yet, as he appears to not have shaken off his ongoing injury woes in a way that Reece James has been able to do so far.

With plenty of Blues returning from international duty, there may be an appetite for the manager to rotate his squad, with the trip to Bayern Munich coming days later.

He may be about to have this option with these two players. As per pictures on the official Chelsea website, both Badiashile and Lavia were back in first team training on Monday.

The Belgian has proven to be part of Chelsea’s best XI whenever he has been fit, however unfortunately that has not been frequent enough in the two seasons he has been at the club.

Badiashile fighting for his place at Chelsea

Despite being at the club for two and a half years now, Badiashile is yet to establish himself as a regular option at the back for Chelsea.

Injuries have certainly not helped the Frenchman, however he will be aware of reports linking him with a move away from the club pretty much every transfer window.

It was claimed over the summer that Chelsea staff were being won over by Badiashile of late, and with Colwill injured now is his time to stake his claim for regular minutes at Stamford Bridge.

It remains to be seen if that begins with the West London derby against Brentford, but with fixtures coming thick and fast, Maresca will be delighted to have another option available at the back.
