Report: Manchester United figures had one warning for Liam Delap before Chelsea move, he completely ignored them
Liam Delap spoke to Manchester United before his move from Ipswich Town to Chelsea back in June.
United were interested in signing Delap, but the striker decided to join Chelsea in the end. Since then, Ruben Amorim’s side have gone on to purchase Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
Delap was not the only forward whom Chelsea bought in the summer, though.
The Blues, of course, also signed Joao Pedro, who has been a revelation for them following his arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion.

When Delap first arrived at Chelsea, it looked like the 22-year-old would be competing against Nicolas Jackson to be the team’s first-choice striker.
However, after the impact that Pedro has made, it is the Brazilian who has become Chelsea’s main No.9.
According to The Athletic, United figures knew that Pedro was heading to Stamford Bridge in the summer and shared that information with Delap in a bid to convince him to join their club instead.
The Englishman only had eyes for Chelsea, though, and picked the Club World Cup winners over their Premier League rivals.
While Delap will have to fight Pedro for a starting spot this season, he no longer has to worry about Jackson.
The Senegal international has joined Bayern Munich on a season-long loan, which could become a permanent deal. United had been linked with Jackson before his move to Germany, but the Red Devils preferred Sesko.
How long will Liam Delap be out for?
Delap’s start to life as a Chelsea player has been very mixed. He scored his first goal for the club at the Club World Cup and helped them to win the trophy, but he is now out injured after picking up a hamstring problem against Fulham.
It is being reported that Delap could now be sidelined for more than two months in a massive blow to Enzo Maresca.
Chelsea have recalled Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland, giving the Chelsea manager another option in Delap’s absence.
